Book Club Opportunity (and we're only reading one book!)
Last week, a Republican Arkansas legislator filed a bill to ban the work of Howard Zinn from Arkansas public schools.
HB1834: AN ACT TO PROHIBIT A PUBLIC SCHOOL DISTRICT OR OPEN- 9 ENROLLMENT PUBLIC CHARTER SCHOOL FROM INCLUDING IN 10 ITS CURRICULUM OR COURSE MATERIALS FOR A PROGRAM OF 11 STUDY BOOKS OR ANY OTHER MATERIAL AUTHORED BY OR 12 CONCERNING HOWARD ZINN; AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES. (Read here.)
So what's the best response to something like this that feels a bit unconstitutional and unnecessary? I'd say it's reading one of the very books that's currently under fire!
